Organs & Bosses

A full run goes nose to brain through eight organs. Each has its own look, music, local cells and tissue hazards, a key guardian holding a gene, a cancer, and a boss you must beat to break through.

The Journey

Eight Organs, Nose to Brain

Every Infect Game Mode run descends through the host one organ at a time, each with its own cells, hazards, music and boss. There's no going back.

Area 1 · First organ

Nasal Passage

The place to learn the ropes: soft pink tissue full of mucus and swaying cilia, guarded by the Mast Cell. Cells here hit gentler than anywhere else, so new players can find their feet.

BossMast Cell
Key guardianMucin Colossus
CancerNasopharyngeal Carcinoma
AssassinSquamous Stalker
Nasal Passage gameplay
  • Mucus puddles in every room slow you down
  • Nerve endings fire a Sneeze Reflex that flings everything away
  • The Mucin Colossus guards the key to a mucus-plugged door
  • Break the nodules shielding Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, then the tumor
The real nasal passage

The air channel behind the nose, lined with mucous membrane. It warms, humidifies and filters the air you breathe.

Fun fact: Most respiratory viruses, including influenza, begin their infection here.

Area 2 · Second organ

Lungs

Violet air-sac tissue that actually breathes, so a slow current sways you up and down as it inhales and exhales. The Alveolar Macrophage waits at the end.

BossAlveolar Macrophage
Key guardianSyncytium
CancerLung Adenocarcinoma
AssassinLepidic Glider
Lungs gameplay
  • Breathing currents sway you through every room
  • Nerve endings fire an even stronger Cough Reflex
  • Air sacs on the walls exhale gusts that clear enemy shots
  • Shoot down Lung Adenocarcinoma's metastases before they take root
The real lungs

The organs of breathing, where oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide leaves it.

Fun fact: Spread flat, the surface of the lungs' air sacs would cover roughly half a tennis court.

Area 3 · Third organ

Bloodstream

A rushing crimson vessel where the blood flow shoves you along with every heartbeat and red blood cells stream past. Ride the current all the way to the Plasma Cell.

BossPlasma Cell
Key guardianFibrin Weaver
CancerLeukemia
AssassinCirculating Blast
Bloodstream gameplay
  • Pulsing blood flow pushes hardest on each heartbeat
  • Solid red blood cells block shots from both sides
  • No nerve endings here, because blood has no sensory endings
  • Leukemia keeps dividing until you kill its glowing stem cell
The real bloodstream

The network of vessels carrying about 5 litres of blood around the body every minute, filled with red cells, platelets and immune cells.

Fun fact: Laid end to end, your blood vessels would stretch around 100,000 km, more than twice around the Earth.

Area 4 · Fourth organ

Lymph Node

The immune system's checkpoint: blue follicles crowded with lymphocytes and organised by helper T cells. From here on, each organ is a big step harder than the last.

BossFollicular Helper T Cell
Key guardianReticular Warden
CancerLymphoma
AssassinOwl-Eye Mimic
Lymph Node gameplay
  • Reticular fibres strung across rooms snag you and cells alike
  • An Awakened Reticular Warden guards the Plasminogen Activator
  • Lymphoma clones hide among harmless lymphocytes
  • The Follicular Helper T Cell commands the germinal centre
The real lymph node

A bean-sized checkpoint where immune cells gather. Lymph drains through it, and B and T cells meet the antigens dendritic cells bring in.

Fun fact: You have around 600 lymph nodes; swollen glands during a cold are nodes busy fighting.

Area 5 · Fifth organ

Gut

A golden intestinal lining with finger-like villi swaying along the walls. Goblet cells lob mucus, peristaltic waves sweep the rooms, and the Paneth Cell guards the crypts.

BossPaneth Cell
Key guardianCajal Pacemaker
CancerColon Carcinoma
AssassinSignet-Ring Burrower
Gut gameplay
  • Peristaltic waves sweep the room, carrying everything along
  • An Awakened Cajal Pacemaker guards the Mucolytic Enzyme
  • Colon Carcinoma hides in its crypts, so watch where it surfaces
  • The darkest, most swung theme in the game
The real gut

The intestines: a lining of finger-like villi covered in mucus, home to trillions of bacteria and about 70% of the body's immune cells.

Fun fact: Spread flat, the small intestine's surface would cover about half a badminton court.

Area 6 · Sixth organ

Liver

The body's filter: rust-red hexagonal lobules, each with a dark central vein. Near-invisible NKT cells patrol here, and stellate cells leave scar tissue behind them.

BossKupffer Cell
Key guardianPolyploid Hepatocyte
CancerHepatocellular Carcinoma
AssassinHepatoid Regenerator
Liver gameplay
  • Bile ducts spray corrosive jets straight across the room
  • An Awakened Polyploid Hepatocyte guards the Fusion Peptide
  • Hepatocellular Carcinoma regrows its lobes unless you kill them all
  • The Kupffer Cell waits at the end as the liver's filter
The real liver

The body's chemical factory and filter. Blood from the gut flows through its hexagonal lobules, where resident macrophages catch anything foreign.

Fun fact: The liver can regrow from as little as a quarter of its original size.

Area 7 · Seventh organ

Bone Marrow

The blood-cell factory inside the bone, with pale struts and fat cells, where megakaryocytes shed platelets and myeloblasts burst into neutrophils. It also has the fastest music in the game.

BossHematopoietic Stem Cell
Key guardianGiant Osteoclast
CancerMultiple Myeloma
AssassinLytic Stalker
Bone Marrow gameplay
  • Stem cell niches heal you when burst, but release Neutrophils
  • An Ancient Giant Osteoclast guards the Mucolytic Enzyme
  • Dodge Multiple Myeloma's locking antibody spirals and bone lesions
  • The Hematopoietic Stem Cell, mother of every blood cell, rules here
The real bone marrow

Soft tissue inside bones where every blood cell is made: hundreds of billions a day, from a small pool of stem cells.

Fun fact: Your marrow makes about 2 million new red blood cells every second.

Area 8 · Final organ

Brain

The last organ, hidden behind the blood-brain barrier: a dark violet web of neurons with sparks running along it. Every cell here shrugs off part of the damage you deal.

BossMicroglia
Key guardianBetz Cell
CancerGlioblastoma
AssassinGlial Infiltrator
Brain gameplay
  • Synapses arc electricity between pairs of neurons
  • An Ancient Betz Cell guards the Fusion Peptide
  • Glioblastoma's core hops between nodes, so cut the nodes down
  • Defeat the Microglia to win the run
The real brain

Protected by the blood-brain barrier, the brain has its own immune system run mostly by microglia and astrocytes.

Fun fact: The brain has around 86 billion neurons and roughly as many glial cells supporting them.

Boss Fights

The Eight Organ Bosses

At the end of every organ, a giant immune cell guards the way on. Bosses aim where you're heading and grow more dangerous as they weaken.

The Plasma Cell, the Bloodstream's boss
The Plasma Cell, the Bloodstream's boss

How Boss Fights Work

All bosses

Every boss follows the same shape: it enrages as it weakens, raises shields while reinforcements pour in, then ends in a final frenzy. Big attacks are always telegraphed, so you can read them.

  • Shields bring reinforcements, so break the shield first
  • Calls like SNEEZE, ENGULF and SHOCKWAVE warn of big attacks
  • Every win drops named set gear and a DNA upgrade orb
  • Retrovirus hits bosses extra hard

Mast Cell

Nasal Passage boss

A spinning orange cell packed with histamine that circle-strafes the middle of the room and floods it with bursts. The trick is to stay close, because it never sneezes up close.

  • Hang back and its room-wide Sneeze shockwave comes more often
  • Dodge its Histamine Charge and it's left exposed
  • Once enraged, it calls in Neutrophils
  • Drops Histamine trophy gear from the Hemagglutinin Array set

Alveolar Macrophage

Lungs boss

A huge, slow, breathing phagocyte that never stops lashing pseudopods at you. It alternates between inhaling you toward its core and releasing surfactant bubbles that drift after you.

  • Dash to break free when it engulfs you
  • Its open core takes extra damage while it engulfs
  • Surfactant bubbles pop into rings of shots
  • Once enraged it moves faster and lashes in spreads

Plasma Cell

Bloodstream boss

The antibody factory. It hides behind a turning Immunoglobulin wall, so you circle around it while dodging antibody fans, forking snipes and platelet swarms.

  • Hits on the front of its IG Wall barely scratch it
  • Antibody Snipe forks into a Y just before reaching you
  • Opsonize marks you to take more damage for a while
  • Calls in Natural Killer Cells at each shield phase

Follicular Helper T Cell

Lymph Node boss

Commander of the germinal centre, a bristling blue lymphocyte that whips the room into a cytokine storm and keeps calling in B cells and helper T cells.

  • Germinal Center marks your path, then antibodies converge on it
  • Cytokine Storm makes every other cell faster, fiercer and shielded
  • Summons B Cells, Plasmablasts and Helper T Cells
  • Shockwave rings you have to dash through

Paneth Cell

Gut boss

Keeper of the intestinal crypts, packed with gold defensin granules. Expect spiralling defensin streams, mucus barrages and granules lobbed right where you're heading.

  • Defensin Granules land on your path and burst into rings
  • Mucus Barrage leaves hurtful, slowing puddles
  • Turning spiral arms of shots sweep the room
  • Calls in Goblet Cells at each shield phase

Kupffer Cell

Liver boss

The liver's resident filter, a lumpy macrophage that nets you in crossing lashes, engulfs you and charges. It attacks on a quicker rhythm than the other bosses.

  • Sinusoid Net lashes cross exactly where you stand
  • Scar Pools leave slowing patches around you
  • Dodge its lunge and it's left exposed
  • Calls in Stellate Cells at each shield phase

Hematopoietic Stem Cell

Bone Marrow boss

The mother of every blood cell. Between bursts, spirals and bone spikes, it keeps making new ones: neutrophils, myeloblasts, platelets, even megakaryocytes and NK cells.

  • Spicule Eruption bursts bone spikes along a line through you
  • Platelet swarms and Megakaryocytes join the fight
  • When the room is crowded, it fires bursts instead of summoning
  • Shockwave rings you have to dash through

Microglia

Final boss

The brain's last line of defence, a branching violet cell that lashes in every direction, summons glia and strikes lightning down marked lines. The blood-brain barrier weakens every hit you land.

  • Synaptic Prune flashes a line, then lightning strikes down it
  • Summons Astrocytes and Resident Memory T Cells
  • Engulfs and charges, leaving its core exposed
  • Beat it for TOTAL INFECTION and the win

Keys & Locks

Key Guardians, Genes and Sealed Doors

Every organ seals one door with living tissue. Beat the organ's key guardian, splice the gene it guards into yourself, and keep its bonus for the run.

Sealed Doors

Every organ

Each organ seals one doorway, usually on the way to the boss, with a mucus plug, a tight junction or a fibrin clot. Carry that organ's gene and it dissolves for good.

Gene Chambers

Every organ

A fight room, often tucked into a dead end, guarded by the organ's key guardian. Win and a glowing helix of foreign DNA appears for you to splice into yourself.

Mucolytic Enzyme

Key gene

Dissolves the mucus plugs sealing the Nasal Passage, Gut and Bone Marrow, and stops mucus from slowing you. Guarded by the Mucin Colossus, Cajal Pacemaker and Giant Osteoclast.

Fusion Peptide

Key gene

Slips through the tight junctions of the Lungs, Liver and Brain, and turns your dash into a weapon that damages every cell you pass through. Guarded by the Syncytium, Polyploid Hepatocyte and Betz Cell.

Plasminogen Activator

Key gene

Dissolves the fibrin clots sealing the Bloodstream and Lymph Node, and stops sticky platelet clots from bogging you down. Guarded by the Fibrin Weaver and Reticular Warden.

Key Guardian Rules

Mini-boss

Key guardians are mini-bosses that get meaner, first Awakened and then Ancient, each time you meet one deeper in the body. Every one throws a hook that reels you in, so watch for the warning line.

Mucin Colossus

Nasal Passage guardian

A living mucus plug guarding the Mucolytic Enzyme, and the gentlest key guardian, the first most players meet. Stay out of its slowing puddles and dash free when it hauls you in.

Syncytium

Lungs guardian

Fused cells with several nuclei in one membrane, guarding the Fusion Peptide. Sidestep its marked lunges, and watch for the fragments it sheds as it weakens, which hunt you.

Fibrin Weaver

Bloodstream guardian

A living clot guarding the Plasminogen Activator. It keeps its distance and circles you while it weaves, ringing you in sticky fibrin clots and calling in Platelets.

Reticular Warden

Lymph Node guardian

A star-shaped Awakened scaffold cell guarding the Plasminogen Activator. It strings a cage of conduit threads around you that pulls shut, so find the open side or dash across.

Cajal Pacemaker

Gut guardian

The gut's Awakened electrical pacemaker, guarding the Mucolytic Enzyme. It sets the whole room contracting, so slip through gaps in the rolling waves and hop between clenching floor strips.

Polyploid Hepatocyte

Liver guardian

A two-nucleus Awakened liver cell guarding the Fusion Peptide. The rings around it turn toxic in turn while one stays safe, and bile lines burst through where you're heading.

Giant Osteoclast

Bone Marrow guardian

A huge Ancient bone-dissolving cell guarding the Mucolytic Enzyme. It burrows out of reach while a crack tracks you, then erupts in a ring of bone shards and leaves a painful pit.

Betz Cell

Brain guardian

A giant Ancient motor neuron guarding the Fusion Peptide. It leaps along flashing lines in a chain, then goes refractory and helpless, which is your moment to hit it hard.

Living Tissue

Hazards and Terrain

The host's own tissue fights back, but it doesn't take sides. Hazards hit immune cells at least as hard as you, so lure the immune system into them.

Nerve Endings

Nasal Passage, Lungs

Glowing nerve fibres in the walls that fire a Sneeze or Cough Reflex, flinging you and nearby cells away. Shoot near one instead of standing on it, and the host blames the cells.

Cilia Carpets

Nasal Passage, Lungs

A carpet of beating hairs that carries anything on it the way the arrows point. Dash to cross against the flow, and watch cells get swept into pits.

Air Sacs

Lungs

Alveoli on the walls swell up as a warning, then exhale a gust that blows you and cells away and wipes out enemy shots in its path.

Red Blood Cells

Bloodstream

Solid discs drifting with the pulsing blood flow. They shove you around and soak up shots from both sides, though a few of your shots will burst one.

Reticular Fibres

Lymph Node

Fibres strung across the node that slow you to a crawl while you touch them, and snag cells too. A couple of shots from either side snaps a strand.

Peristalsis

Gut

Every few seconds the gut wall clenches and a wave sweeps the room, carrying everything with it. A flashing band warns you first, so dash through and let it push cells into pits.

Bile Ducts

Liver

Ducts in the walls spray a corrosive jet of bile straight across the room after a flashing warning line. It stings you, but it hits cells far harder.

Stem Cell Niches

Bone Marrow

Pods of young blood cells. Touch or shoot one to burst it and heal, but fresh Neutrophils pour out already hunting you.

Synapses

Brain

Pairs of neurons that fire an electric arc between them after a flickering warning. The arc hits cells far harder than you, and shooting a neuron fires it early.

Abyss Pits

Any organ

Bottomless gaps in the tissue. Falling in is a heavy blow rather than instant death, you can't fall while dashing, and cells shoved in are gone for good.

Drop Shafts

Rare

A rare glowing shaft in an organ's deeper fight rooms. Walk in and the current sweeps you into a freshly shuffled layout, briefly invulnerable, with hunting Killer T cells off your trail.

Mucus Puddles

Nasal Passage

Green puddles of mucus in every Nasal Passage room that slow you down unless you carry the Mucolytic Enzyme. The Mucin Colossus leaves even more behind.

Clots & Scar Tissue

Bloodstream and deeper

Sticky patches left by dying platelets, fibrin attacks, goblet mucus and stellate scarring that bog you right down. The Plasminogen Activator gene makes you immune, and a dying Basophil's heparin clears nearby platelet clots.

Blood Flow

Bloodstream

The current pushes you in pulses that peak on each heartbeat, and red blood cells drift with it. Each room flows its own way, and dashing ignores the push.

Breathing Currents

Lungs

The lungs keep breathing, swaying you gently up and down in a slow rhythm through every room, while air sacs on the walls add sudden gusts on top.

Blood-Brain Barrier

Brain

The brain's shield, announced as you arrive. Every hostile cell in the Brain, the Microglia included, takes reduced damage from you.

The End

When the Brain Falls

Defeat the Microglia in Infect Game Mode and the host is yours.

Total Infection

Victory

Beating the final boss plays the Total Infection ending: all eight organs light up in turn along a spreading green line, from the nose to the brain.

  • Organ medallions light up one by one as the screen pulses green
  • A closing message: every organ now runs on your code
  • Then a final tally and your run summary

Next up

The Immune System

Real immune cells with real jobs, and a host that escalates when it notices you.
